In my grade 5 computer class, we were learning programming with a program that had a turtle that drew our commands, so we had to write clear commands for the turtle otherwise as our teacher used to say “the turtle is as lazy as humans he will take the shortest/easiest way”. Back then I was very young and energetic,I kept thinking that humans are not lazy, I kept thinking “I do not like to take shortcuts!”. The older I got the more I realized that it is true, we are lazy by nature, we generally tend not to put an effort if we do not need to.
Our goals, our dreams, our hopes and aspirations, excite us when we think of them but when it comes to being practical we keep delaying and delaying. Many theorists would say that we do not work hard enough for our goals because we are afraid to fail, on the contrary, I believe we do not work hard enough because we are lazy, we live in fear everyday, those little things that happen every single day that scare us for no apparent reason is not going to make us afraid to fail because we are prone to fail in anything and that is not why we do not reach our goals. I believe that we are too lazy to put an effort in something so big because we know it might exhaust us.
Like the little things, if we woke up everyday and brushed our teeth without skipping a day, our teeth would’ve been whiter, if we moisturized everyday our skin would’ve been glowing, if we walked everyday for 10 minutes we would’ve been healthier, if we studied something for 10 minutes everyday we would’ve mastered something new, if we memorized a verse of the Quran everyday we would’ve memorized it all by now, if we were just consistent with the little things e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y, our life would have been so different, but we choose to walk out of the house right after we get out of bed instead of brushing our teeth for 1 minute, we chose to take the car instead of the 10 minute walk, we chose to skip the moisturizing to avoid the 1 minute stickiness, we chose the easier way every time everyday, knowing the less easier way is not so hard. I keep saying that if we were consistent with the little things we would achieve something that is not-so-little.
You see, we do not need motivation, we need to not be lazy, we do not need energy we need to take action, we don’t need to stress about how long it will take us, we need to relax and take it step by step, because if we want to take the shortcut or the easy way then we will stay put where we are. Take a hold of your life don’t cave in to your lazy life take action, reach for the stars because the little things will take you there!
